The unusually elegant facade of the Calumet Building is one of the few art nouveau designed glazed terra cotta buildings in the United States.
Calumet was the name given by the French to the Native American ceremonial pipe. The third floor of this building was once used by the Calumet Club, whose symbol was the calumet pipe. During the Prohibition years, the local chapter of the Klu Klux Klan had an office in the building.
In 1988, Mark Goldman, a local historian, purchased the building. He started the revitalization of West Chippewa Street into the thriving entertainment and nightclub district it is today. The building is currently home to La Luna nightclub, Third Room bar, and
Bacchus Wine Bar & Restaurant. The upper floors are vacant.
