McNamara was an Irish immigrant, settling in Port Lavaca before moving on to Victoria. Here he became a successful cotton and hide dealer and, eventually, a city councilman.
McNamara's small home is described as a 'Greek Revival with Victorian accents,' but actually looks more Gothic. The house features the typical, simple Greek Revival floor plan -- a few rooms flanking a central hall. Like many early homes, the kitchen and dining room are detached, almost forming a wing. The structure has been restored into a museum, with mostly original furnishings in three rooms.
Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 1pm-5pm. Admission: $2.
