This well at the trading post
Casa de Fruta was already known to American Indians and was first written about when Spanish missionaries "discovered" it in the 1790s. Later, the water source was very popular during the Gold Rush and amongst anybody coming across
Pacheco Pass.
Today, there is a fosset covering the well but the water is still fresh and serves as a natural emergency fire hydrant.
