Long before the Grand Canyon was called a National Park, there existed the Grand Canyon Railway. The train has a deep history that needs to be appreciated. The Grand Canyon Railway was the lifeline to Grand Canyon National Park in the early 20th century. It made it's first trip to the Grand Canyon in 1901. Unfortunately passenger service stopped to GC in 1968 as the popularity of automobile travel increased. Thankfully it was reborn in 1989 when it was purchased by Max and Thelma Biegert, they brought it back to life.
Today the Grand Canyon Railway takes 230, 000 people a year to visit the rim of the canyon. Reservations are reccommended and you can reach them at (800) The-Train.
The train travels from Williams, AZ. to the Grand Canyon, the above co-ordinates are for the train depot located within the Grand Canyon National Park.
The train has several packages to choose from. They go out to the canyon for the day, or, you can visit the canyon and stay at a lodge when you get there. The fees vary. The below prices listed are for the train ride only.
