The cannon, consisting of a large American fieldpiece captured by the British during the War of 1812 is mounted on a replica wooden field carriage, which rests on a raised concrete platform. The current cannon and platform were arranged at the center of the cemetery in 1936 and replaced an earlier cannon associated with the cemetery.
Parking is available along the shoulder of the road directly in front of the cemetery. The cannon and cemetery are maintained by the Town of Cheektowaga. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
