Park at the very top of North Cheyenne Canyon in the lot. Ride Gold Camp Road south (generally) to where it intersects with Stage Coach Road (about 11 miles). Continue on Gold Camp to forest road 379 on the right (38 44.461N, 104 57.324W). To avoid the uphill ride, you can have someone drop you off here in a car. Follow the steep uphill to trail 701 (38 45.793N, 104 57.724W) on the right. You can't miss this turnoff, there are metal fence rails and such. This is where the downhill begins. Take this trail (still a few steep, short uphills) north to trail 667 (38 48.496N 104 57.638W). This is not well marked with a sign, but you can't miss it. Come out in an open area between the mountains, cross the stream, and head back east. The trail is easy to follow. Stop and rest and see the USGS Benchmark from 1906 at 38 48.474N 104 57.556W. It's in the top of a large pink granite boulder. This is the best part of the ride coming up. Head east on 667 to the log cabin ruins at 38 47.763N 104 56.517W. (Off the trail to the north just a bit). Continue on 667 to a trail (Buckhorn Trail) intersection (on the south side of the stream) at 38 47.564N 104 55.386W). Cross the stream and walk to the top of the ridgeline. Take Buckhorn trail to High Drive and then back south to the parking lot.
