Chief Tshwane used to rule the people of this area before the Voortrekkers moved in.
According to oral tradition or stories Chief Tshwane was one of the sons of Chief Mushi or Msi from KwaZulu Natal. Chief Mushi moved to the region in about 1652 and gave an area near the Apies River to his son.
The 3.6m bronzed figure of Chief Tshwane cost 1 million rand.
The region of Pretoria has now been changed back to Tswane in memory of the people that once lived in the area.
