This bell was cast in 1855 by the J. Bernhard & Co. It was dedicated in 1964 in commemoration of the more that 100 years that Willmington served as the General Headquarters of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and its predecessor companies.
The bell was used to announce the departure of all passenger trains from the time it was errected in 1856 until the new station was built in 1963.
