Assumption Abbey was founded in 1950. The first ten yearsthe monks tried farm, orchard, and vineyard for self support. In the 1960's, they began making concrete blocks, using sand and gravel from their land. This industry provided for the community and for charitable needs, as well as constructing the permanent monastery in 1970. In the mid-1980's they began a fruitcake bakery.
