From the cave parking lot along the road, walk past the picnic shelter and follow the trail. At the fork, do not take the steps down to the cave. Continue 100 yards farther. You will see this rock beside the trail. This 50 ton boulder sits on a base measuring about one square foot.
Maquoketa Caves State Park has several caves to explore. Only one has been civilized. There is also a natural bridge. The campground here is small, but is available for both RV and primitive camping.
