Marked by Ohio Historical Marker 11-50 (
visit link) which is shared on the opposite side with the Pioneer Pavilion, this old furnace is the third built to make iron in what was a strong industrial valley situated on the Mahoning River tributary Mill Creek. Centrally located between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, the Mahoning Valley ( aka "steel valley") is part of what is now known sadly as the "rust belt." This furnace was in use from 1820s to 1840s. It is being inexorably reclaimed by mother earth!
