Largest Cross in the Western Hemisphere - Route 66 - The Mother Road on Waymarking.com

This cross claims to be the largest cross in the western hemisphere, but in my research I sometimes see it referred to as the second largest. Regardless, it's amazingly tall. Built in 1995 by Steve Thomas, it stands 190 feet and weighs 2.5 million pounds. Forming a circle round it's base you can see bronze statues which depict scenes from the bible. It's located on the west side of Groom, TX.

It was snowing when I visited so I couldn't see it from very far away. However, I read a blog posting by a trucker who talked about how he could spot it from 25 miles away on I-40. Then, over the course of time as he approached he would watch it grow larger and larger. This must be impressive to see, especially at night as I'm told it is illuminated.
