This grave is located in Wyatt cemetery, named for this veteran, Nathaniel Wyatt. The cemetery is located in southern Marion County, Ohio along the Olentangy River. The cemetery also holds 2 other Revolutionary War veterans as well as veterans from other wars as well. Of additional interest, there are 13 unknown soldiers from the war of 1812 buried here, and the cemetery is located near the former location of Fort Morrow.
In 1810, Nathaniel Wyatt built a tavern along the Harrison Military Road which ran near the present day US RT 23. This served as a resting place for travelers going to and from Lake Erie. Because of tensions in the area, a man named Captain Taylor directed the building of a picket enclosure around the tavern. The new Fort Morrow served to protect the establishment as well as to function as a sanctuary for local settlers in case of Indian attack. Although several scares brought families to its protective cover, no actual attacks were recorded.
Nathaniel Wyatt and William Brundage were the first white settlers in Marion County.
