The link below leads you to a story referencing the addition of the historic Route 66 crossing of the Mississippi River to the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge constructed in 1929 and became the most famous bridges along Route 66. The bridge closed in 1967 and was threated with demolition in the 1970's. The bridge is now open to bicycles and pedestrians.
