Celeste is a stainless steel armillary sphere sundial measuring 12.8 meters (42 feet) across. It is a companion piece to the nearby Terra, which is a small section of the globe with the top at Sudbury, the observer’s location. Both Celeste and Terra were designed by Tom Semadeni, and installed in Spring 1994.

This is a half armillary sphere sundial, with the equator at ground level. The gnomon is the round steel pipe.
