Here lies south of the Celtic fortified sanctuary a large field of burial mounds with 29 mounds in total. A group of six mounds southeast of the sanctuary by the playground are particulary large. The largest has a height of 3 meters and a cross section of 35 meters. Also in the southwest group laying in the forest are a few large mounds. The cemetery belongs to the Hallstatt period (around 600 A.D.) in which burials covered by artificially built up earth mounds were common.
Various excavations of these burial mounds have been carried out since 1833, yet the excavation reports are scanty and the finds only partly preserved. However, according to the excavation of E. Paulius, the mounds contained cremation and body graves which were typical of the middle and late Hallstatt period. Of the finds, various bronze arm and foot bracelets as well as golden earrings have been passed down. The number of mounds and above all the size of them demonstrate that an important settlement was located here, although its exact location remains unknown.
