The former walls of the square fortification can be made out as a linear mound enclosing what was once a temple area. It can be found near the city of Echterdingen, just south of Stuttgart and along the Federlesmahd interpretive trail.

Park at N48 40.808 E9 09.047

This site represents a typical late Celtic construction which enclosed a temple area. These are areas which are roughly square and surrounded by a ditch and rampart. It is in unusually good condition and shows all of the characteristic attributes of this kind of monument. The ramparts are between 90 and 98 meters long, and the surrounding ditch is clearly to be seen. Typical are the reinforced corners.

A small excavation in 1911 revealed a 2 meter wide "V" shaped ditch hewn out of the bedrock as well as an earth and stone rampart. It could not be determined whether a settlement existing inside. As more recent excavations of these constructions have revealed, they are walled sanctuaries with a small wooden temple and deep shafts, which can be over 30 meters deep. These are evidently "culture wells" or sacrificial shafts. These constructions are typical for the area between the Main and Danube rivers and the Black Forest and are missing in other areas settled by the Celts with the exception of Northern France. Noteworthy is that they often lie in the vacinity of early Celtic burial mounds.
