Pandaemonium tells the story of Samuel Taylor Coleridge with William Wordsworth's influence. William moves to the Lake District, arriving by coach and horses, and that scene was shot here. On public permissive path beside lake shore. Very scenic.

The publicity photos on location are both the Quantocks, and here Buttermere's shoreline. The field where filming took place is privately owned, and has a permissive footpath allowing a circuit of lake's shoreline possible. Permissive path shown on modern maps (after 2004). Not far away is a geocache in a tunnel.

Buttermere is an unspoilt, beautiful, scenic valley, which would have inspired Coleridge and Wordsworth if they had lived here. In fact Coleridge lived near Wordsworth, who rented around Grasmere and Rydal. Neither lived in this valley, but Wordsworth did visit, writing about Scale Force (geocache).

In the background of John Hannah's (William Wordsworth) publicity photo are Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks, with Buttermere lapping at his feet.

Behind Emily Woof (Dorothy Wordsworth), in her publicity photo, are a hollow tree on a promontory, and hills on other shore of Buttermere are High Stile and High Crag with Combe Gill, the cascading stream between.
Neither of this shots appear in the movie.

The arrival of William and Dorothy Wordsworth by horse drawn carriage along the shore of Buttermere, is the first scene after they leave the Quantock Hills. In the background can clearly be seen Fleetwith Pike, Warnscale Bottom, High Crag, Combe Beck and High Stile. The scene is barely 20 seconds long.

Parking is limited in the valley by continuous double yellow lines everywhere. But there are several lay-bys and National Trust (free) car parks within easy walking distance.

Look at other waymarks for other filming locations in the valley. Bowderbeck and Hause Point are two used by Pandaemonium. Miss Potter at Loweswater.
