Suzzallo Library is the Graduate level library on the University of Washington campus and with it's 35 miles of book shelves and magnificent reading room, it is the soul of the University.
A building this important should have grand doors and Suzzallo definitely does, 6 of them in fact. The entrance has three main entry arches and above each of those is a statue of a figure representing "Mastery," "Inspiration" and "Thought". Within each of those archways are two doors topped by iron grillwork. Within the grillwork is the name of famous printers throughout time - Aldus, Caxton, Guttenberg.., and their birth and death dates. These can be seen in the close up photos. Originally the grillwork covered the entire doors but the doors were deemed too heavy and the metal was removed and sent as scrap to the campus metal shop.
