Long Description:
The Lancaster Municipal Building is significant architecturally as a locally significant example of the Moderne style of design, and also as an example of the work of Buffalo architects Hudson and Hudson.

On the site once stood the mid-19th century American Hotel (later known as the Village Inn) and the 1896 fire hall. In 1936, a right-of-way was given by the Village to Erie County to accommodate a major Works Progress Adminitration project involving improvements to Broadway. The Hotel was no longer standing and the right-of-way necessitated the removal of the fire hall during the summer of 1936.

Construction began May 13, 1939 and was completed the following year at a total cost of $127,500. It has served as the center of the Village of Lancaster government since that time.
