"Bunyon's Chess" is a very lighthearted piece, referencing the legendary logger Paul Bunyon. It was commissioned by Virginia Wright in 1965 and the artist created it on site at their home over the summer. The sculpture is a gift to OSP.

"Bunyon's Chess" references the legendary logger, Paul Bunyon. The sculpture was created in 1965 at the home of Virginia and Bagley Wright who gifted the piece to the Olympic Sculpture Park in 2006.
An interesting fact about the piece is that while di Suvero lived with the Wrights he became quite a nuisance. He rearranged their paintings, helped himself to their wine cellar and threw a party when they weren't home.
The piece is 22 feet high and is made of stainless steel and wood.
