With so much of early Seattle history razed to make way for modern development, the Pioneer Building remains today to remind of us Seattle's rich historical and archaeological beginnings. The building, pergola and totem pole are the centerpiece of the historic Pioneer Square neighborhood, and the building itself houses one of Seattle's best guided tours, the
Seattle Underground Tour.
Be sure to visit the Pioneer Building during business hours on a weekday for a tour of the interior.
The building sits on the site of the Seattle area's first sawmill belonging to Henry Yesler (1810-1892), the surveyor of Puget Sound.
