The South Carolina State memorial was erected where General J. B. Kershaw's brigade advanced against the Union positions on July 2.
The memorial was placed to honor South Carolina's eleven state infantry regiments, two cavalry regiments, and five artillery ballalions.
The memorial is made of Winboro Blue Granite, designed by J. B. Hill, and the contractor was Bruns Monument Company. The memorial cost about $15,000.
