Founded in the 19th century, by king Carlos I, Aquário Vasco da Gama is a very popular place, impressing particularly the younger visitors, that frequently demand it on school excursions. The Aquarium exhibits around 1500 living species, namely fish, sharks and seals. On the other hand, it has also a fine collection of embalmed sea animals, includings sharks and marine birds. The exhibitions display very complete scientific explanations, detailed but simple.
