The Naval Air Station Tillamook was constructed in 1942-43 to house eight K-class blimps which were used for anti-submarine coast patrol. Two blimp hangers were built at the NAS. Naval Air Station Tillamook was decommissioned in 1948. Today the remaining hanger (one was destroyed by a fire in 1992) is the home of the Tillamook Air Musuem. The hanger is 1,072 feet long, 192 feet high, 296 feet wide, and covers an area of over 7 acres. This massive building is one the largest wooden building in the world, rivaled only by other blimp hangers.
