Built between 1 and 500 A.D. by pre-historic Indians, this complex of over a dozen mounds contains the oldest flat-topped, ceremonial mounds in America. Religious ceremonies were conducted on the tops of these mounds, the tallest of which is over 70 feet high. Several smaller burial mounds and a circular earthwork are also present. The site was occupied only on ceremonial occasions.
