NL / BESTADHUIS, gebouwd na een besloten prijsvraag (1913) in opdracht van de gemeente Rotterdam in 1914-1920, naar ontwerp van prof. ir. H. Evers in neo-Renaissance stijl met neo-Romaanse en neo-Byzantijnse invloeden. Prominent gelegen aan de Coolsingel tegenover het Stadhuisplein.

De bouw vond plaats in het kader van de sanering van de verkrotte en verpauperde Zandstraatbuurt (vanaf 1913) en het dempen van de Coolvest (1920) teneinde een nieuw en representatief stadscentrum te creëren voor de groeiende handelsstad.

Op het iconografisch programma van de talrijke sculpturen in in- en exterieur heeft de toenmalige burgemeester M.A.Z. Zimmermann een belangrijke invloed gehad. De rijke inventaris van het stadhuis is geheel betaald uit particuliere schenkingen. Als eerbetoon aan de architect werd in 1923 een bronzen borstbeeld van prof. Henri Evers - door J. Keller - opgesteld in de centrale hal.


UK / USTOWN HALL, built after a closed competition (1913) commissioned by the municipality of Rotterdam in 1914-1920, after a design by prof. Ir. H. Evers in neo-Renaissance style with neo-Romanesque and neo-Byzantine influences. Prominently located on the Coolsingel opposite the Stadhuisplein.

The construction took place as part of the remediation of the dilapidated and impoverished Zandstraat area (from 1913) and the filling in of the Coolvest (1920) in order to create a new and representative city center for the growing trading city.

The then mayor MAZ Zimmermann had an important influence on the iconographic program of the numerous interior and exterior sculptures. The rich inventory of the town hall has been entirely paid for from private donations. In 1923, as a tribute to the architect, a bronze bust of Prof. Henri Evers - by J. Keller - was placed in the central hall.
