On October 13, 1813, Jesse Elliot, about to start a horse race, declared "Take me in a winner or take me to hell". With that, his horse dug in his hooves and threw him into the side of a pine tree, killing him. Now, supposedly, the hoof prints of that horse are still there. Any object which is placed in the hoofprints disappears by the next morning. And Jesse learned the hard way not to make bargains with the devil!
The prints are in the woods to your left as you drive toward Goose Creek State Park.
Bath, the oldest incorporated town in North Carolina, also boasts (as of this writing) one geocache, Edward Teach, Blackbeard.
