The Michigan Avenue lift bridge is located near several of Buffalo's historic grain elevators and crosses the Buffalo River.

The first recorded bridge at this location was built in 1873, while the current vertical lift bridge was opened in 1960. It replicated a 1933 design that was destroyed in a shipping accident.
