Whoa. A log home still exists in Detroit. Tucked away on the east side of Clements Street between 12th and 14th Streets. Streetside parking available. I drove past it once because it is so tucked away. The marker is on the gable of the entry porch.

From the State Historic Preservation Office website:
Narrative Description:
The James Smith Farm, situated in the heart of urban Detroit, is a one-and-one-half-story, side-gabled, aluminum-sided log house featuring an interior chimney. its present three-bay facade presents a corner entry door that is shielded by a gabled portico. The side elevations display functional fenestration and a box bay occurs to the west. The house has been altered by the removal of a bay, the addition of the entry porch, and the application of siding.
Statement of Significance:
Although significantly altered, the James Smith Farm is perhaps one of the earliest surviving dwellings in Detroit and one of the city's few remaining log dwellings. The house appears to date to the first half of the nineteenth century, possibly as early as the 1830s.
