The First M.E. Church in Lyons, Iowa was dedicated Sept. 20, 1857. A fire destroyed that building October 23, 1892. The church was rebuilt in 1893 and the bell was presented to the church by a local family.
On one side of the bell is engraved,
"First M.E. Church, Lyons, Iowa
First Building dedicated Sept. 20, 1857
Burned Oct. 23, 1892
Rebuilt in 1893"
On the other side of the bell is engraved,
"Presented as a token of love
By W.J. Young and Family
Sept 24, 1893"
Around the crown of the bell is the manufacturers name,"Buckeye Bell Foundry 1893, VanDuzen and Tift, Cincinnati
