On September 10, 1813, Commander Oliver Perry and his fleet defeated the advancing British Navy giving the United States control of Lake Erie. Today, the cannon sits on the lawn of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. It serves as a monument to Perry's victory in the Battle of Lake Erie that took place near this point on Belle Isle.
