A picture is worth 1,000 words

I came to this place to take a picture for a "cityscape" waymark, but then I remembered that every time I was here, there were pretty good waves. The water in the Monterey Bay forms a giant eddy and this is where this vortex hits the shore. That has two effects:

1. Every animal that ends its life in the bay, every dead pelican and every deceased seal ends up at the shore right here under the windows of the travelodge hotel.
2. no matter what the wind conditions are, there is always good wave action here.

There is a boardwalk nearby, so this is a very safe way to watch waves. The beach itself, however, is not safe! There are riptides and at high tide, there isn’t much of a beach to start with. So, be safe and stay on the boardwalk!

Do I have to pay?: no
