It is located at the highest point of the walled old town in Rhodes. The Palace was use as the home of the Grand Master, the headquarters of the Order of knights, and as fortress.
The palace has a almost square plan with a central courtyard. The footprint is 80 x 75 meters with stone walls that range from 262 to 240 feet. The walls of the palace are defended by several bastions with crenelated parapets. The main entrance is located on the south side of the Palace. The ground floor of the Palace contains apartments.
Today, the Palace of the Grand Master is a museum. The upper level is reached by a large staircase. There you will find works of art and a large display of impressive floor mosaics. The Palace is the foremost attraction within the walled old town of Rhodes.
