THE BUILDINGS ALONG WELLINGTON ROAD
WERE ERECTED AFTER 1850 ON SURPLUS LAND
SOLD OFF BY THE L N W RAILWAY CO. THEY
SERVED AS WAREHOUSES AND SELLING HOUSES
FOR WoOLLEN CLOTH MANUFACTURERS.
LATER IN THE CENTURY, WAREHOUSES WERE
PROVIDED ON MILL SITES AND BY 1890
MANY OF THE WELLINGTON ROAD BUILDINGS
HAD BECOME RAG WAREHOUSES.
