This blue plaque at the entrance to Dewsbury railway station is one of two that celebrate successful mathematicians from Dewsbury who attended the nearby Wheelwright Grammar School.

This left hand plaque has a direct connection to the railway station because Tom Kilburn used this station to travel to Manchester whilst working at Manchester University.

1921-2001
He co-invented the world's first ever
stored-program computer. He wrote its first
program in June 1948 while travelleing
from this station to Manchester University
where he became Britain's first Professor
of Computer Science from 1960 to 1981.
Born and raised in Dewsbury, he
attended the local Wheelwright
Grammar School
