Saint John of Nepomuk (or John Nepomucene) (Czech: Jan Nepomucký; German: Johannes Nepomuk; Latin: Ioannes Nepomucenus (c. 1345 – March 20, 1393) is the saint of Bohemia (Czech Republic), who was drowned in the Vltava river at the behest of Wenceslaus, King of the Romans and King of Bohemia. Later accounts state that he was the confessor of the queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. On the basis of this account, John of Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a patron against calumnies and, because of the manner of his death, a protector from floods and drowning.

The sculpture stands on a stone block terrace with a pen made of 9 stone pillars, between which two wooden horizontal crossbars are always stretched. There is a 12-step stone staircase leading to the terrace, again with two pillars and a stone railing. The sculpture is placed between 4 linden trees, bounded by a stone balustrade of a square plan. The walls of the balustrade are always from one stone slab, embossed with bunches of plant tendrils, between which there are 4 oval large holes in each side. Upstairs the balustrade is finished with a profiled cornice with rectangular crevices in the walls with oval medallions with ears. In the medallion in front inscription: KE CTI / CHWALE GOD / GE TEN PICTURE / BUILT ON / LAY M.LÍRA / 1716 /. The statue stands on two stages set on the ledge. Standing saint in a priest's robe, with a square, holds a crucifix in his hands, which prints on his breasts. Body weight on right leg, left forward slightly forward, slightly curved left. On the back of the pedestal the inscription: FIXED MEM. ÚRADEM 1941.

Jan ci Johánek z Pomuka (mezi 1340 a 1350 v Pomuku, dnešním Nepomuku – 20. brezna 1393 v Praze) byl generální vikár pražského arcibiskupa, pozdeji uctívaný jako svatý Jan Nepomucký, mucedník katolické církve a jeden z ceských zemských patronu.
Od roku 1369 pusobil jako verejný notár v Praze. Poté pusobil jako hlavní písar u práve vytvorených soudních akt generálních vikáru. Mezi lety 1373–1383 požíval titulu notarius, prothonotarius cancellarie a domesticus commensalis arcibiskupa Jana Ocka z Vlašimi. V zárí 1389 byl jmenován generálním vikárem pražského arcibiskupa po Kuneši z Trebovle.
Kvuli velkému západnímu schizmatu vzniklo neprátelství mezi ceským králem Václavem IV. a arcibiskupem Jenem z Jenštejna. Dne 20. brezna 1393 se brzo ráno sešel král Václav IV. s Janem z Jenštejna. Po krátké hádce nechal král zajmout ctyri muže z arcibiskupova doprovodu, Jana z Pomuka, Mikuláše Puchníka, míšenského probošta Václava Knoblocha a laika arcibiskupského hofmistra Nepra z Roupova. Ti byli vyslýcháni na Pražském hrade, poté na Staromestské radnici, kde byl posléze držen Nepr a ostatní byli presunuti do staromestské rychty (dnes dum c. 12 na rohu ulic Rytírské a Na Mustku), kde byli muceni. Jan zemrel behem tohoto mucení, ostatní byli propušteni. Okolo deváté vecer pak bylo jeho telo svrženo z dnešního Karlova mostu do Vltavy.

Plastika stojí na terase z kamenných kvádru s ohrádkou z 9 kamenných pilírku, mezi nimiž jsou nataženy vždy dve drevená vodorovná brevna. Na terasu vede kamenné 12-stupnové schodište , dole opet s dvema pilírky a s kamenným zábradlím. Plastika je umístena mezi 4 lipami, ohranicena kamennou balustrádou ctvercového pudorysu. Steny balustrády vždy z jedné kamenné desky, reliéfne zdobené svazky rostlinných úponku, mezi nimiž jsou 4 oválné velké otvory v každé strane. Nahore je balustráda ukoncena profilovanou rímsou s obdélnými vpadlinami ve stenách v nichž jsou oválné medailonky s ušima. V medailonu vpredu nápis: KE CTI/CHWALE BOŽÍ/GE TEN OBRAZ/POSTAVEN NA/KLADEM M.LÍRA/1716/. Socha stojí na dvou stupních nastavených na rímse. Stojící svetec v knežském rouchu, s kvadrátkem, v rukou drží krucifix, který si tiskne na prsa. Váha tela na pravé noze, levá predsunutá mírne dopredu, postava mírne prohnutá doleva. Na zadní strane podstavce nápis: OPRAVENO PAM. ÚRADEM 1941.
