The Griffith Observatory has been a landmark in Los Angeles since it's opening in 1935. It recently underwent a five year restoration and expansion project that preserved the building's unique architecture along with many of the exhibits that have become favorites of Angelenos over seven decades, while providing new state of the art exhibits and a major upgrade to the world famous planetarium. The observatory houses the 12-inch Zeiss refracting telescope which more people have looked though than any other telescope in the world. The observatory has a coelostat that tracks the sun and provides the solar image to three solar telescopes.
