  • (1820) à
  • (1838) D'azur à un lion d'or, armé et lampassd de même, l'écu timbré d'une couronne d'or.
  • (1883) D'azur, au lion d'argent, armé et lampassé de gueules, l'écu chargé de billettes d'argent et couronné d'or.
  • (1984) D'azur au château-fort d'argent accosté de deux écussons du méme au lion couronné de sable, celui de dextre contourné.

Origine/signification

Les armoiries furent officiellement concédées le 6 décembre 1820 par le Conseil suprême de la Noblesse des Pays-Bas et confirmées le 7 avril 1838 par un Arrêté royal après l'indépendance de la Belgique . De nouvelles armes furent octroyées le 1er mars 1883 et  le 27 août 1984 après la fusion des communes. Le dernier blason reprend le motif du plus ancien sceau connu de la ville.

  • (1984) Azure a castle fortified Argent between two escutcheons from the same to the lion crowned Sable, the dexter one circumvented.

Origin/meaning

The coat of arms was officially granted on 6 December 1820 by the Supreme Council of the Netherlands Nobility and confirmed on 7 April 1838 by a Royal Decree after Belgium's independence. New weapons were granted on 1 March 1883 and 27 August 1984 after the merger of the municipalities. The last coat of arms is based on the motif of the oldest known seal of the city.
