Governor Tod Robinson Caldwell was born on February 19, 1818 in Morganton, North Carolina. Governor Caldwell graduated from the University of North Carolina and went on to serve in the North Carolina Legislature before being elected Lieutenant Governor. He was elected Governor of North Carolina in 1871 and served until he died in office on July 11, 1874. Governor Caldwell is buring in Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton, North Carolina.
