This arena is named in commemoration
of the dedication and achievements of
Howard Darwin
(1931-2009)
Recognized for exceptional service to the City of Ottawa, Howard first made his mark in Ottawa's business community with the opening of Howard Darwin Jewelers in 1950. Later, he introduced the city to cable television through his company Ottawa Cablevision.
A sport enthusiast, he established major junior hockey A and AAA baseball in Ottawa through the creation of the 67's Hockey Club and the Ottawa Lynx Baseball Club. He was also deeply involved in amateur sports throughout the city including the Ottawa Nepean Canadians Sport Club. For his achievements and lasting contributions to the residents of our community, Howard was recognized with numerous awards, including Business Person of the Year and induction into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame.

Reconnu pour les services exceptionnels qu’il a rendus à la Ville d’Ottawa, Howard a d’abord fait sa marque dans le milieu des affaires d’Ottawa en ouvrant la bijouterie Howard Darwin en 1950.
Il a ensuite fait connaître la télévision par cable aux résidents d’Ottawa grâce à son entreprise appelée Ottawa Cablevision. Fanatique de sport, il a implanté le hockey junior majeur A et le baseball AAA à Ottawa en créant le club de hockey Les 67 d’Ottawa et le club de baseball Les Lynx d’Ottawa. Il est aussi profondément impliqué dans le sport amateur à la grandeur de la ville, notamment auprès de l’Ottawa Nepean Canadians Sport Club. Pour ses réalisations et sa contribution durable à notre communauté, Howard s’est vu remettre de nombreux prix, dont celui de l’homme d’affaires de l’année, en plus d’être admis au temple de la renommée des sports d'Ottawa.
