There are also two small footstones here, one with "Baby" and the other with "Hunts". Presumably, "Hunts" is for the other child, and not Mr. Mercer, and one wonders if this was a nickname, especially since Mr. Mercer's first wife's maiden name was "Hunter". There is no listing on Findagrave for her with her two family members, but she is referenced on the infant's panel. But "Hunts" also appears on Mr. Mercer's panel...
Of course, Mr. Mercer is listed on the front, and there is an interesting floral decoration on both sides of the sloped cap. The family name, "Mercer", is listed below the panel, which reads:
Joseph
Hunts
Mercer,
Born
in Kentucky,
July 20, 1860,
Died Oct. 27, 1895.
--*--
I am the resurrection
and the life.
----------
The reverse panel is blank, and the two children are listed on the remaining sides, opposite of each other:
Loran
Hunts
Mercer,
Born
June 25, 1895
Died
Dec. 20, 1907.
--*--
Safe in the arms
