City park was a Works Progress Administration Project (WPA) in 1939. The WPA installed an outdoor amphitheater, picnic tables, cooking grills, benches, and bridges in 1939.

In 1977 the park got improvements with the help of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, and Department of the Interior.
