NRHP Nomination Form

"The current Quanah City Hall, at 220 Mercer Street (property 20C) was constructed in 1923 at a cost of $40,000. Contractor Charles Steckler built the building after a design by E.H. Eads. When it opened, the building housed the city and school tax assessor, water and sewer department, police and fire departments, the Chamber of Commerce, and the city council chamber. The simple one-story and basement building is composed of brick and rests on a concrete foundation. The building has a flat roof with a brick and cast stone parapet running along its outer edge. A pedimented arch and two columns shelters the main entry. On the south facade, facing West Third Street, is a bay opening for fire trucks. With the exception of the front entry door, the building has experienced few alterations."
