In Memory of Mayor Jerry Dyer
3/23/1946 - 1/24/2015


He was my insurance agent when I first moved to this town in 1994. His wife is very active in military veterans events and the Elks.
She currently is a city alderman.
To Honor Jerry Dyer and his service to this community, when a new bridge (exit) over I-70 was constructed, it was dedicated and named in his honor. News Story: Warren County Record


"Jerry Dyer, 68, Warrenton, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at his home, with his loving wife and children at his side.

"Jerry was born in Lincoln County March 23, 1946, the son of Parks Dyer and wife Darline, nee Harrell. After high school he attended college in Warrensburg where he received his undergraduate degree. Jerry then went on to get his master's at Truman State. He served his country in the U.S. Army for two years, serving in Korea.

"Jerry married the love of his life, Cheryl Gerard, Sept. 2, 1967, at College United Methodist Church, Warrenton. They had two children, Stephen and Erin. Jerry was the football, basketball and track coach in Warrenton for the junior high and the high school for 13 years. He then was the principal at Wright City High School. Jerry also served on the Warren County School Board as president. He then went into the insurance business for Shelter Insurance, Warrenton, for over 30 years. After retiring from the insurance business, Jerry became the mayor of Warrenton for three years. He resigned from the position in December 2014.

"Jerry was an avid sportsman; he loved watching football, basketball, baseball and all track events. Jerry was a member of the "Coffee Group," Warrenton Elks Lodge and Duck Club. He enjoyed playing golf, going duck hunting and trout fishing. Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren.

"He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Dyer; one son, Stephen Dyer; one daughter, Erin Kaminski and husband Andrew; six grandchildren, Alexa, Ryan, Riley, Ava, Ana and Carter; four sisters, Barbara Owenby and husband Floyd, Brenda Coleman and husband David, Sharon Marten and husband Larry and Margie Dyer; four sisters-in-law, Chris Dieckman and husband Wayne, Cindy Wright and husband Mike, Carin Hicks and husband Tadd, and Carol Dyer; other relatives and many, many friends.

"Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Parks and Darline Dyer; two brothers, Ronnie and Butch Dyer; and one sister, Doris Baumann.

"Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, Warrenton.

"A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m. at the Warrenton Elks Lodge, 1101 E. Veterans Memorial Parkway, Warrenton.

"In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Tribute to Veterans Memorial, a park bench at Binkley Woods or to the Elks Lodge, in care of Martin Funeral Home, 510 E. Main St., Warrenton, MO 63383." ~ The Warren County Record, Jan. 29, 2015
