Au cours de son histoire, la Tour Carrée fut utilisée comme demeure seigneuriale, tour canon destinée à protéger le Golfe, grenier à grains, prison (comme en témoigne l'étroit cachot ouvert dans ses murs), école et mairie (de la révolution à 1935).

Two unusable guns located in the small park in front of the Square Tower of Sainte Maxime.
During its history, the Square Tower was used as a stately home, a barrel tower designed to protect the Gulf, granary, prison (as evidenced by the narrow dungeon opened in its walls), school and town hall (from the revolution to 1935).
