"A HAND FROM PARIS TO A SHOPPING STREET
While shopping on the Meir you will come across a sculpture of a super big hand. Many take pictures there and it is also an ideal climbing wall for young (and sometimes slightly older) children. You will find “little hands” throughout Antwerp. It is simply the symbol of Antwerp, if you want to know more about this you can read the blog post from Brabo. There are also hands on the MAS.
The sculpture is by the sculptor Henri de Miller, born in 1953 in France. He is not only a sculptor, he also designs gardens and parks.
The original sculpture was made in 1986 and is larger than the work in Antwerp. It is titled l’Ecoute, the listening. It stands beside the Saint-Eustache church in Paris, close to the Forum des Halles. The title of the work refers to the background, the head listens to the sounds of the metro."
