The DowntownTX website is a great resource in providing some background, as the National Register's Nomination Form says little other than noting this one as a contributor (as property #24) and capturing it (as W.M. House Jewelry) in photo #55. It replaced whatever was there before the Great Fire of 1916, and these are some past occupants:

1917-21: Mayes Drug Store
1924-28: Snell-Coffey Drug Company
1929: Lamar County Abstract Company / Snell-Coffey Drug Company
1936: Plaza Drug Store
1940-44: Jim Hood Domino Parlor / Tinnin's Shoe Store
1946-54: Paris Infants Shop / Tinnin's Shoe Store
1957-63: Lee Optical
1964-2004: W. M. House Jewelry
