The smiling Hula girl statue, featured in a slightly larger than life size bronze sculpture titled - Aloha! - Signifies the joy of arrival. Located at the entrance of the landmark, and, historic Aloha Tower, Honolulu Harbor, Hawaii.
This Statue of a dancing Hula Girl, represents the typical, historic welcome made by Hawaiians to Island visitors on boat days.
There are several Hula Girl, and, Hula children, statues, of various sizes and poses, arranged throughout the Aloha Tower Marketplace.
A bronze plaque, near this Hula Girl statue, found just inside the entrance to the Aloah Tower, reads:-
ALOHA!
"In the old days, when everyone travelled by ship, Honolulu's Boat Days had two distinct faces, the joy of arrival and the bittersweet sorrow of parting.
This bronze statue's named "Aloha!" depict the joyful hula dancers that once greeted all new arrivals at the festive Boat Days of yesteryear.
They were dedicated to King Kalakuau, Hawaii's Merry Monarch, who through his own popular songs celebrated the daily joy of living.
King Kalakaua (1836 to 1891} also had a serious side as expressed when he wrote Hawaii's anthem, Hawai'i Pene'i.
