PIONEERS IN TEXTILES
From 1850 to 1861, the center for the cotton and wool spinning industry was hereabouts, many mills being located on Shoal Creek.
First was Hope Factory, built just upstream by William Parks in 1823. Other were Glen Factory, Crescent Mills, Crowson Woolen Mill. The last closed about 1865.
